Join TCTC owner Danielle Beaudette as she shares her travel experiences through the lush tea-growing regions of northern India. In this engaging presentation, you’ll learn about the journey of the tea leaf—from harvest to production—while getting to know the remarkable people who cultivate it.
Through personal stories and vivid insights, Danielle will take you through the Darjeeling and Kumaon regions—two remote tea areas set at some of the highest elevations in the world. Darjeeling, known as the “Queen of the Hills,” lies along the eastern Himalayas of Nepal and offers a magical escape with its mist-covered landscapes, lush tea gardens, and nostalgic, slow-paced charm.
In contrast, the Kumaon tea estate—located in a lesser-known region in the Himalayan foothills west of Nepal—are part of a quiet revival. These mountains are home to restored colonial-era gardens now focused on regenerative practices and the production of high-quality white and green teas. With an emphasis on sustainability, farmer-owned operations, and women-led initiatives, Kumaon is helping drive meaningful economic growth in the region.

Danielle shares personal experiences from her travels, including a warm welcome at the Guranse Tea Estate in Dhankuta, dancing with the kind and generous people at Buddha’s Tea Estate in Ilam, and the warmth and generosity of Nishchal and his family at the Organic KTE Tea Estate in Panchthar. Along the way, explore stunning temples, landscapes, and village life through storytelling and photography. Steeped in Culture: Tea Journey through Taiwan
Taiwan is home to some of the world’s most refined oolong teas, shaped by dramatic mountain terroir, misty climates, and generations of master craftsmanship. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of how oolong teas are grown, processed, and perfected—from fresh leaf picking, to withering, oxidation, rolling, and final firing.
Taiwan’s oolongs are especially renowned for their highly skilled light oxidation techniques, producing some of the most aromatic teas in the world. Throughout the lecture, we will also explore Taiwanese tea culture beyond production, with guided tasting and sensory experiences.
Taiwanese teas are globally celebrated for their high-mountain varieties, valued for their complexity, natural sweetness, and distinctive creamy or buttery mouthfeel. Signature styles include the floral and refreshing Baozhong, the rich and roasted Dong Ding, and the rare insect-bitten Oriental Beauty—each representing a unique expression of terroir, climate, and craftsmanship.
