Indulge
Yourself In a Cup of Comfort...
The fall weather has been a little unusual
this year, but it appears the warm days of
summer are now gone. The crisp chill in the
air reminds us of the bounty the fall
harvest brings.
Pumpkin and cranberry cravings in October
are the inspiration for our
Pumpkin Spice and
Cranberry Harvest teas. But we didn't
want to leave out one of the other October
popular harvests - apples! So we've blended
two new teas this year to entice you -- our
Hot Apple Cider black tea and
Fireside Green Apple green tea! Lift up
your cup and fight off the chill of the
season...

World Tea East - Expo Recap
This expo offers tea businesses the
opportunity to come together under one roof
and share our successes and tea stories. The
passion of the attendees and exhibitors is
contagious and it is so much fun to catch up
with fellow tea friends and travelers.
This year, John Harney of Harney and Sons
received a life-time achievement award, the
Cha Jing, for his contributions to the tea
industry. Having been invited into his home
to stay with his family over a decade ago
with my dear tea friend Pamela Aaron, I had
the opportunity to get to know him and his
wife. They are the warmest, kindest and most
down to earth people I have met in this
industry. It was his inspiration and
guidance, along with Pam's that led me into
this wonderful tea industry, and for that I
am truly grateful!
This was another great expo offering lots of
new tea products and meet-ups with Tea
Farmers. The new tea products and teas have
already started arriving in the tea shop, so
stop in for a warm cup and browse the
shelves.
I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer
in the focused tasting session for Taiwan
Oolongs offered by Thomas Shu. We tasted
some amazing teas. I can't wait to actually
be in Taiwan on the tea fields where these
teas come from over the next 11 days!
The 'History of Tea in America' seminar by
Pearl Dexter was very informative as well as
the other seminars I attended. The new crop
teas were in abundance, especially the
well-aged pu-erh offered by Beth Johnston!
The conversation amongst peers was enjoyable
and their enthusiasm infectious. A great way
to kick off another tea season! |
Green tea may help fight against obesity
Thursday, October 06, 2011
PENN State food scientists have
found that green tea may slow down weight
gain and serve as another tool in the fight
against obesity.
Mice that were fed
Epigallocatechin-3-gallate - EGCG - a
compound found in most green teas, along
with a high-fat diet, gained weight 45
percent more slowly than the control group
of mice eating the same diet without EGCG.
