Greetings from The Cozy Tea Cart,
With the state of the economy on everyone's mind,
we are all looking at the next few months with
concern and questions. As you move forward with
caution, let the warmth of tea help soothe you.
At only pennies per cup, even in the most
difficult economic times, you can still take
comfort in a warm cup of freshly steeped tea
leaves. And here at The Cozy Tea Cart, we will
continue to ship your tea orders as efficient and
cost-effective as possible, and we will never
skimp on quality.
I'd
like to share with you some of my experiences in
my latest travels. I recently attended, along
with two of our staff members Lisa and Pattie, the
Sri Lankan Charity Tea Event at Swan's Café
located at the Boston Park Plaza. All proceeds
from the event were donated to the Sri Lankan
Tsunami Relief. The event featured a tasting of
the exclusive high grown St. James Estate Sri
Lankan tea, grown in limited production, which I
had the opportunity to see take first place at the
World Tea Expo auction in June. The entire lot was
purchased by Pearl Dexter, owner of Tea Magazine.
Thanks to Pearl's generosity, we were able to
enjoy this full bodied, velvety tea throughout our
meal. The tea menu was exquisitely created by
Cindy Gold, Tea Sommelier at the Plaza. Her
husband and surreal artist Julian Landa, is well
known throughout the tea industry for his
tea artwork. The afternoon tea
began with a special Sri Lankan Tea Cocktail,
followed by a superb 3-course meal of which some
entrees were infused with Sri Lankan teas. In
attendance at the event were Nimal Karunatilake,
Commercial Minister of the Embassy of Sri Lanka,
Pearl Dexter, Publisher of Tea Magazine and Joseph
Simrany, President of the Tea Association of the
USA and his wife Carol. The auction brought in
additional funds for the relief effort and I'm
pleased to report that I am the proud owner of one
of Julian's original artworks (shown above) of a
Sri Lankan Tea Estate and a beautiful mid-1800s
antique teapot! (To view our selection of Sri
Lankan (Ceylon) teas, click

Another
highlight in my tea travels was a trip with my
husband and two boys to Stonehill College to hear
Greg Mortenson, Author of Three Cups of Tea, speak
to the campus community. (His book was the summer
reading suggestion in our
July Newsletter.) There were
no empty seats in the auditorium. When Greg
spoke, you could hear a pin drop through the
silence. His presentation was incredibly moving
and riveting. After the lecture, we stood in line
for well over an hour, but had the opportunity to
meet with Greg and have him sign our book. Greg
exudes a natural presence of peace so much that
you feel at complete ease when speaking with him.
His height and large hand features are dwarfed by
his display of kindness and serene composure. My
boys each had thought out their question for him
and were captivated by Greg's response. He
inspired my youngest so much that he wants to
start a "Pennies for Peace" program at our local
school. After meeting him, even for a brief amount
of time, it was clear to see how he could be so
successful in Pakistan and Afghanistan. To

In the northeast, the fall weather is at our
doorsteps with cool 40 degree evenings and 60
degree days. The leaves have begun to change and
within a month or two, the leaves on the ground
will be covered in snow. Our fall line of teas
have arrived and now is the perfect time to make
yourself a cup of Pumpkin Spice or Cranberry
Harvest tea, relax by a warm fire, and enjoy that
book that you've been meaning to read! (Click

TEA FOR YOUR HEALTH NEWS

Antioxidants in
Green and
Black Tea
Tea is brimming with
antioxidants, the disease-fighting compounds
that help your
body stave off illness.

Read the tea
leaves, caffeine lovers. Tea is gaining ground
over coffee. Even Starbucks is bucking up its
tea menu. The health benefits of tea are one
compelling reason: Green and black teas have 10
times the amount of antioxidants found in fruits
and veggies, by one estimate.
Studies of humans
and animals show that the antioxidants in black
and green teas are highly beneficial to our
health, says 82-year-old John Weisburger, PhD,
senior researcher at the Institute for Cancer
Prevention in Valhalla, N.Y.
"I've published more than 500 papers, including
a hell of a lot on tea," says Weisburger, who
drinks 10 cups daily. "I was the first American
researcher to show that tea modifies the
metabolism to detoxify harmful chemicals."
