The warm weather is here and
it's time to enjoy the summer months. Our newsletter will now
be published on a quarterly basis. We may occasionally send
out a news flash for an event in the interim, so you won't
miss any exciting news. Now print out a copy, brew yourself a
cup of iced tea, and enjoy. (Click
here to view our recommended summer teas for icing and
here to learn how easy it is to brew iced tea using loose
tea.)
In early June, I attended the World Tea Expo in Las Vegas.
While there, I had the opportunity to participate in seven of
the educational tea seminars offered by scientists,
researchers, and top professionals in the tea trade. I'm
excited to create new lectures for my customer's, and update
the existing ones with the information gained from these
seminars.
The Expo also offered hundreds
of companies displaying their new products (visit
us today to see them!) along with tea farmers from all
over the world displaying their new first flush teas. In
speaking with these farmers, I was able to procure some
wonderful new teas, one of which has just arrived from Japan,
our
Matcha Genmaicha! When infused, this tea has an incredible
color, balance, aroma and flavor.
Order today and see for yourself why it's intoxicating
flavor is so amazing!
After
returning from this trip, The Cozy Tea Cart held our annual
Summer Open House. The weather was perfect for strolling
through the gardens. It was a huge success, thanks to all our
customers who attended, our fantastic vendors, and my
incredible staff who barely had a moment to take a breath.
Our vendors were very busy with the guests, and commented on
how friendly and enjoyable it was to spend time with "tea
people". I couldn't agree with them more! Click
here to view pictures of the event (Even though the
chocolate fountain caught a breeze once or twice, that didn't
stop anyone from indulging in the decadent chocolate from
Swan Chocolate!). Be sure to check our EVENTS
page for up-coming lectures, tea tastings, special events and
our Fall Harvest open house (date TBD). It is constantly
changing, so browse it regularly.
Shortly after this event, I
left for New York to participate in the last certification
class for Level III offered by The Specialty Tea Institute.
Upon completion, I was very fortunate and honored to be
amongst 15 of the first Tea Professionals in the U.S. to
graduate from this advanced program. And what made it extra
special, was that I extended my stay in NY and was joined by
my husband and boys on a mini vacation. There's nothing like
enjoying Manhattan through the eyes of young boys. We had so
much fun!
I'd
like to end this note with a suggestion for a fantastic book
for your summer reading. I had the wonderful opportunity,
while in Las Vegas and NY, to spend time with friends and
colleagues of mine in the tea industry, as well as meet new
ones. I met Kirsten Kristensen, VP of the Brookdale Community
College Alumni Assoc. She spoke to me about a book she had
read called, "Three
Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, and
how that was the inspiration behind her recent project called,
"Knowledge is Power - Three Cups of Tea." I was immediately
drawn into her story and as soon as I returned home, went to
our local bookstore, "Toadstool
Bookshop" and purchased the book. This is a true story
about an incredible man, Greg Mortenson, who has, and
continues to have, a mission to educate children, especially
girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Tea did play a role in this
book as part of a passage to peace between two countries at
war. But the main focus of the story is about how one man, a
humanitarian with determination, courage, and respect for all
faiths, met the desperate needs for education in the poorest
parts of the world--and he did this while we were at war with
these countries. Greg Mortenson often says in his lectures
that he "chooses to think from the heart" to battle the war on
terrorism. I hope you find it as inspiring as I have.
