Greetings to The Cozy Tea Cart's  Newsletter members,

Here in the US, our farms are at the peak of their autumn harvest.  In New Hampshire, you can’t travel more than a few miles without seeing a bustling farm stand by the side of the road with people scrambling to take advantage of the newly harvested vegetables and fruit.  Jack-o-lanterns and cornstalks can be found on doorsteps of homes, around lamp posts, and at every storefront.  The fall foliage is at its peak, painting a backdrop of brilliant color to the orange pumpkins and flowering mums.  If you have the opportunity to visit New England, you should take advantage of the fresh steeped apple cider at the farm stands.  And be sure to pack along your travel mug of one of our teas as you head out on your foliage drive!

Like most other cultures around the world, the Chinese celebrate a fall harvest with the Moon Festival (Zhong Giu Jie).  The festival fell on September 25th this year, when the moon was at its maximum brightness. The Moon festival dates back over 3,000 years to the Zhou Dynasty. The Chinese celebrate their harvest by thanking the moon and Earth through dancing, instrumental performances, and feasting on baked goods.  Moon cakes are the featured dessert served at the festival.  These sweet round cakes can be filled with many things, however lotus seed paste is one of the more traditional cakes with a salty yolk in the middle to represent the full moon.  They enjoy moon cakes along with Oolong or Jasmine tea. On this day, a variety of legends are told to children about the meaning of the Moon Festival.

NEW PRODUCT!!

SWISS CARAMELS INFUSED WITH OUR TEAS!

These caramels from Swiss Caramelier are handmade from the finest ingredients by culinary arts chef Sabine Berke.  There are NO preservatives, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors or colors in the caramels. They are made from heavy cream, sugar and butter and cooked very slowly and stirred constantly.

With the exception of the original flavor, these caramels are infused with three of The Cozy Tea Cart’s teas; Gingerbread Orange, TCTC Spice and Cranberry Harvest.  What better way to enjoy a healthy dose of tea, than in a sweet treat!  For even more flavor, enjoy them with a cup of the same tea that was infused into the caramel. These caramels are very unique in that they have more of a consistency to fudge than the American-made caramels.  Deliciously sweet, these caramels are guaranteed to melt in your mouth!  They can be purchased by the bag for $3.50 each.

JASMINE PHOENIX PEARL

This first class, exquisite Chinese tea is picked on the hillsides of the Fujian province during the spring season.  The long downy shoots are then stored until late summer when the finest jasmine blossoms are in bloom.  The tea leaves are blended 8-10 times with the Jasmine blossoms. Then the blossoms are removed and the tea leaves are hand rolled into small pearl sized balls.  When the tea is steeped, it produces a slightly sweet and floral flavor.

1 oz - $6.25

2 oz - $12.25

TIE GUAN YIN (Iron Buddha Oolong)

This China tea offers a fragrant and sweet aroma and flavor with a golden yellow liquor.  Sometimes referred to as the “Iron Goddess of Mercy”, this emerald colored Oolong is slightly oxidized.   Plucked at just the correct time in Autumn, this tea leaf matures to the point where only the lightest oxidization is needed to produce this fine Oolong’s sweet taste.

2 oz - $7.25

4 oz - $14.25

CRANBERRY HARVEST

Cranberry Harvest is the perfect blend of Ceylon black tea, all natural cranberry flavoring, whole dried cranberries, and blackberry leaves and blossoms.  This crisp, invigorating blend is perfect for a holiday gift or to enjoy with your friends.

4 oz - $5.75

7 oz - $11.00

FALL CONTEST – MY ARTFUL TEA:  HURRY—TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!

For centuries, the pleasure of tea has been captured through paintings, illustrations, ceramics, photography, and many other mediums.  Many painters, including Tingqua, Chinnery, Cassat, Hassam, contributed to the history of tea through their artwork.  The Chinese were responsible for developing the art form of porcelain, which they first traded with the British.  Later, the British potters went on to develop their own form of china, most notably, Wedgewood china.  And there are hundreds of photographs today that capture the tranquility of tea. Now it’s time to get creative!  Whatever your specialty is, drawing, pottery, knitting, photography, craftwork--we would like you to capture the tea inspired moment you’ve enjoyed, while sipping a cup of The Cozy Tea Cart’s tea.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate.  We only ask that you incorporate our tea or company name into your artwork medium.  ALL FORMS OF ARTWORK WILL BE CONSIDERED. For more details, click here

Researchers Dip Into Tea’s Bag of Health Benefits

Washington Scienfific Symposium on Tea

By Delthia Ricks, Newsday.com

Can imbibing tea affect brain waves – or perhaps more astonishingly, thwart the development of lung cancer?  A growing number of scientists, including a team on Long Island, theorize that tea is far more complex than most people might think.  As a result, they are exploring new ways to uncover the chemical secrets nature has tucked into the leaves of green and black teas.  To view the remainder of this article, click here.
