Greetings to The Cozy Tea Cart's newsletter members,

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentines Day and if you are in the North East, that you were able to stay warm from the Nor’easter with a steaming cup of tea.  Also celebrated this month is Chinese New Year (symbolized by the pig) known in China as the Spring Festival.  This year, the Chinese New Year begins on February 18th and ends 14 days later with the Lantern Festival. The day before New Years eve, the people of China keep busy cleaning their entire house.  This is also referred to as spring cleaning which legend says will sweep away the bad luck of the preceding year and prepare their home for good luck in the coming year.  They also decorate their homes and place red diamond-shaped banners on the front doors with the word luck inscribed on them.

On New Years eve, fireworks encased in red paper are set off.  Legend tells us that the fireworks are to scare off evil spirits and the red paper symbolizes success in the coming year. The family members that no longer live at home travel back for a family reunion to celebrate the New Year.  They sit down to a large meal of at least ten courses which includes a whole fish, and reminisce about the past year and the new year to come. (The whole fish symbolizes abundance for the coming year.)

On New Years day, the parents give each of their children a red envelope containing an even amount of money (red also symbolizes good luck). Also on this day, no bad or negative words can be used because it might bring a year of bad luck. The remaining days of the Spring Festival are celebrated with more fireworks, a lantern parade, a lion dance, shopping for new clothes (red clothes are the preferred item of clothing during the 15 days of celebration in hopes to bring the wearer a bright and sunny future), dragon boat racing, and many, many other traditional ceremonies. All throughout these festivities, they offer very loud enthusiastic greetings and well wishes such as, Happy New Year and Be Prosperous.  The series of celebrations end with the Lantern Festival where children go out at night with bright lanterns (which symbolize good luck and hope), sometimes in shapes of animals. What fascinating and unique traditions to welcome the New Year!

Why not celebrate the Chinese New Year by sending your loved one or friend something special such as one of the The Cozy Tea Cart’s chocolate infused China teas? Or enjoy one of our three decadent “drinking chocolates” from Vosges to celebrate the month for Valentines.  The Cozy Tea Cart is a proud supplier of the distinguished Vosges ultra-rich, decadent cocoas--the spicy Aztec Elixir Couture Cocoa, the refreshing lavender and lemon myrtle infused Bianco Couture Cocoa, and the creamy Madagascar bourbon vanilla infused dark chocolate La Parisienne Couture Cocoa. These are not instant like hot cocoa which is made from cocoa powder.  You must add milk, cream, water or soy to the chocolate shavings and chunks in order for it to melt, then froth the mixture for the ultimate chocolate drinking sensation.  These drinking chocolates are richer and thicker than your normal hot cocoa and should be enjoyed in smaller, demitasse size cups. They are a must for the true chocolate connoisseur.  Stop by our shoppe or call to order your box today.  Don’t wait, these are going fast!!

The study, published in the journal Psychopharmacology, found that people who drank tea were able to de-stress more quickly than those who drank a fake tea substitute.
